Hello everyone! 😊 Today, I'm going to share a recipe for making Egg Tarts at home. These delicious little tarts are filled with soft, sweet custard and have a crispy, buttery crust. They’re the perfect bite-sized treat to enjoy anytime. The best part? They’re easy to make at home, so let’s get started! 🍳✨
🛒 Ingredients (Makes about 8-10 tarts)
For the Tart Shell
- 100g butter (at room temperature)
- 150g all-purpose flour
- 30g sugar
- A pinch of salt
- 2-3 tablespoons cold water
For the Custard Filling
- 3 eggs
- 70g sugar
- 150ml milk
- 100ml heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Make the Tart Dough
- Start by softening the butter at room temperature. Then, sift the flour, sugar, and salt into a large bowl.
- Add the softened butter into the flour mixture and rub it with your fingers until it becomes a crumbly texture.
- Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Be careful not to add too much water – just enough to bring the dough together.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
2️⃣ Prepare the Custard Filling
- In a bowl, whisk the eggs with the sugar until smooth.
- Add the milk and heavy cream and whisk to combine.
- Add the cornstarch and vanilla extract, then whisk again to ensure everything is mixed well.
3️⃣ Shape the Tart Shells
- Take the chilled dough out of the fridge and roll it out on a lightly floured surface until it’s about 3mm thick.
- Cut the dough to fit your tart pans and press it into the edges to form the tart shell. Prick the bottom of the shell with a fork to prevent it from puffing up during baking.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the tart shells for about 10-12 minutes, or until they turn golden and crisp.
4️⃣ Add the Custard Filling
- Once the tart shells are baked, carefully pour the prepared custard mixture into the shells.
- Reduce the oven temperature to 160°C (320°F) and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the custard is just set.
5️⃣ Serve and Enjoy
- Allow the tarts to cool before removing them from the tart pans.
- Serve the tarts once they are fully cooled – they taste best chilled!
🏆 Tips for Making Perfect Egg Tarts
✔ Be careful with the tart dough – Use cold water and avoid overworking the dough to ensure a buttery, crisp crust.
✔ Bake the tart shells at the right temperature – This ensures the crust becomes golden and flaky.
✔ Don't overbake the custard – Keep an eye on it, and bake until just set, so it remains smooth and creamy.
Now you can easily make delicious and soft Egg Tarts at home! 🍮💕
