Hello, everyone! 😊
Today, I’m going to share an easy recipe to make Vietnamese Pho (Rice Noodle Soup) right at home. Pho is one of the most iconic dishes in Vietnam, and now you can recreate this delicious dish in your own kitchen! Let’s get started!

🍲 Ingredients for Vietnamese Pho (Pho Bo)

1. Broth Ingredients

  • 500g Beef Brisket
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Thumb-sized piece of Ginger
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 2 Star Anise
  • 2-3 Cloves
  • 2 Cardamom Pods
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 2L Water

2. Noodles

  • 400g Rice Noodles (Pho-style noodles)

3. Garnishes

  • Fresh Cilantro (Chopped)
  • 1 Green Chili (Chopped, optional)
  • A handful of Bean Sprouts
  • 1/2 Onion (Thinly sliced)
  • 1 Lemon (Cut into wedges)
  • Thinly sliced Beef (Optional: You can use flank steak, rib-eye, or any preferred cut)

🍜 How to Make Vietnamese Pho

1. Make the Broth

  1. Clean the beef brisket and place it in a large pot with 2L of water.
  2. Begin heating the pot over medium heat. Once it starts to boil, add the onion and ginger, and lightly char them in the pan to bring out their flavors. (This step will deepen the broth's taste.)
  3. After boiling, skim off any scum or impurities that float to the top, then add the cinnamon stick, star anise, cloves, and cardamom pods to infuse the broth with aromatic flavors.
  4. Add soy sauce and sugar to adjust the seasoning, then let the broth simmer on low heat for about 2 hours. This slow cooking process will extract all the rich flavors.
  5. Once the broth is ready, strain it to remove the solid ingredients, and you’ll have a clean and flavorful broth!

2. Prepare the Noodles

  1. Cook the rice noodles in boiling water for about 2 minutes. Be careful not to overcook them!
  2. After cooking, rinse the noodles under cold water to stop the cooking process, and set them aside in a bowl.

3. Prepare the Garnishes

  1. Rinse the bean sprouts and set them aside.
  2. Thinly slice the onion and prepare it for serving.
  3. Chop the cilantro and slice the green chili if you prefer a spicy kick!
  4. Cut the lemon into wedges for a fresh squeeze of juice when serving.

4. Assemble the Pho

  1. Place the cooked rice noodles in a bowl and pour the hot broth over them.
  2. Add thinly sliced beef on top. The hot broth will cook the beef slices immediately.
  3. Garnish with bean sprouts, onion, cilantro, chili, and a squeeze of lemon juice. You can add hoisin sauce and sriracha for extra flavor if you like.

🍽️ Tips for the Perfect Pho

  • The key to delicious Pho is the aromatic broth, so take your time to simmer and let the flavors develop.
  • For the meat, you can choose different cuts of beef like flank steak, rib-eye, or even shank—the choice is yours!
  • Don't forget the lemons and green chilies for that refreshing and spicy twist!
  • Pho is best enjoyed when served hot with a side of fresh herbs and garnishes, which add both flavor and texture.
